Addressing common inquiries about safety, assembly, and materials. We prioritise safety, ensuring our bunk beds meet the highest standards for design and construction.
Hi, Yes all our bed frames are heavy duty so can be used for adult use. The base slats are thicker, the side rails have base slat supports that are screwed not stapled. Added with the fact this is solid pine not MDF this product is for heavy duty use. Each base has been tested to take a weight up to 40 stone.
However, its not the weight but how the bed is used. A three stone child jumping on a bed caused more damage than an adult.
Hi, Sorry our drivers don’t have time to assemble the beds so we are unable to offer this service. The beds are very easy to assembly and come with full instructions.
However if you google furniture assembly with your postcode there will be companies that can offer this service for you.
Yes, we supply short length bunk beds, bed frames and mattresses. The mattress length is 160cm, the external length is 173cm. This size is available in the drop down menu when it asked to select a size, all beds are available in short sizes.
Hi,.
All our products come in a natural as standard, we do offer colour options on some models.
You can easily paint or stain our beds yourself. The timber is pre-sanded, any internal furniture paint will work well. This can be brought in many colours and purchased from any DIY store. Base on two coats you should only need 1 Litre
We use a one to two coat application, no primer or aftercoat required. Simply apply the paint using a roller and brush. To apply a coat to a bunk bed for example only takes approx 60mins.
We supply a paint that matches our maion three colours, White, Black or Grey. Please copy this link for details: https://www.strictlybedsandbunks.co.uk/product/child-safe-furniture-paint-1-litre-tin/
However you can use any internal wood paint, we recommend a chalk based furniture paint. Go to any DIY store for colour selection.
Hi, all our products come with a standard 12 month warranty. All our products are a simple, solid timber pine structure with no moving parts. Timber has been used in furniture for centuries due to its strength and durability.
So, in the right hands can last for years, in the wrong hands’ minutes. So, these are not unbreakable, however if assembled and used correctly will last for many years. Within the first 12 months we would cover breakage caused by knots or a failure in the pine, however we are unable to cover mis-use.
Hi, no sorry.
As a manufacturer to keep prices down we have to make in bulk. All our products are made using solid timber. This means, with the right tools and DIY skills you can easily cut down to the desired length or height.
Yes, simply place your order. Within the instruction box on the shopping cart advise you wish to collect. We will then be in contact. If you order before 11am you can collect the same working day (stained beds take three days to prepare so we would advise)
We will email/text you all collection details. Collection is from our SG19 1SB depot.
Yes, you are dealing with a UK manufacturer. We control the design and the quality to ensure it meets or exceeds UK safety regulations. Not all imported beds will !!
All our bunk beds confirm to Manufactured to British Standard EN747 2012 Part 1 and 2
We are members of FIRA, Furniture Institute Research Association, this ensures we continue to be informed and adhere to all safety upgrades.
You are in SAFE HANDS.
As a UK manufacturer we can control the design and quality.
Lets take a peek under the hood……….
- Remember, the mattress gives you the comfort, the base is what holds you up. For this reason we have added additional support to ensure every bed can take the weight of an adult.19mm Thick solid pine base slats, NO cheap plywood here just to save money
- 35mm Thick centre support rail held up by metal supports (Not included or required for Cabin beds,Avalon, Molly or Molava)
Its all about your back up
Its all about your back up
There is no point having strong base slats if the siderail and base slat holder are simply stapled in. Yes, to save money and speed up production
- importers only staple these import base slat support bars. This is the main reason why a base fails. STRICTLY BEDS hand screws each and EVERY base slat support to the siderail. This gives added support and crucial strength to the bed.Base slat support bar attached by screws, not done on the cheap and stapled for speed.
Remember, nothing is unbreakable. In the wrong hands everything can be broken. A bed is not a trampoline, a three stone child
jumping on a bed base can cause damage. An person using the product as a bed will have no problems, its just common sense.
Well done, your still here so must be interested – Quality of wood.
We only use good old fashioned, solid pine. No cheap MDF, no manufacturered “rubber wood” (mixture of glue and B-grade timber)
All our timber comes from sustained forests, this means for every tree cut down a minimum of 10 are planted. Remember this is NOT hardwood so does not come from ancient forests. Pine is a softwood and grown quickly and sourced from the EU.
We are based in Sandy , Bedfordshire. We do not have any showrooms as we are a manufacturer dealing direct to the public on a nationwide basis. HAll orders need to be placed online, rest assured you are able to return any item you are not satisfied with.
We have a SALE on at present so sorry no aditional discount
Most bunk beds only take a 15cm mattress. Ours can take a thicker 20cm size, the reason why we advise a 20cm mattress is to ensure the guard rails are effective for safety. The thicker the mattress the less effective they will be, so a 25cm mattress as an example will fit but will reduce safety.
The mattress will still be lower that the guard rails but not the required, recommended depth.
If the user is responsible it should not pose an issue but the responsiblity is yours
Yes if you want to exchange you would need to place a new order on our website, then within the instructions in the shopping cart request us to collect the items on this order. Please quote the order number.
We will then arrange the delivery and collection for the same day, once the goods have been returned we will refund the order collected. Please ensure the goods collected are fully wrapped, note we cannot exchange mattresses that have been opened or used due to hygienic reasons
All ladders are universal, they can go to the left or right. The ladders bunk beds with an upright postion are fixed, you cannot hook on and off.
Ladders that are slanted, whilst we recommend they are fixed can be hooked on and off the bunk bed.
Yes, all our products are delivered flat packed for easy transport. You are therefore required to assemble the product, all instructions and finxings are included.
The boxes are small and will go through tight spaces, the average size box is 200cm by 20cm by 15cm – 20KG per box.
Our mattresses can be delivered flat or rolled, we only use rolled mattresses to remote locations. If you are unsure please advise your postcode and we can advise.
Hi, Amazon purchase our goods directly and set their own retail price depending on what promotion they are running at the time. For this reason their price will fluctuate higher or lower than ours.
Naturally dealing directly with the manufacturer allows for easier contact and direct access to aftersales support. This service has a cost element that is not built into other sales portals.

Is Pine Good for a Bunk Bed?
Yes — pine is an excellent choice for a bunk bed, especially when it’s properly sourced, treated, and built to professional standards like we do here at Strictly Beds and Bunks.
As a UK manufacturer specialising in solid wood beds, we’ve been crafting pine bunk beds for over 20 years, and we stand firmly behind the material. Here’s why pine not only works — but thrives — as the foundation of a strong, safe, and long-lasting bunk bed.
💪 1. Strong Enough for Kids – and Adults
There’s a misconception that because pine is a “softwood,” it’s somehow weak. That couldn’t be further from the truth — especially when using the high-grade Scandinavian pine we select. Our timber is slow-grown, making it denser and more durable than cheaper alternatives.
Each Strictly Beds and Bunks pine bunk bed is designed to hold up to 149kg (23 stone) per bunk, making it suitable for teenagers and adults — not just children. That means no creaks, no wobbles, and no worrying about structural stability.
🏠 2. Perfect for Home Use: Light, Tough, and Adaptable
Pine is lighter than hardwoods like oak, which makes it easier to transport and assemble — especially important for a bunk bed you may be manoeuvring upstairs. But don’t let the weight fool you — once assembled, pine bunk beds are rock solid.
Its natural flexibility also makes pine ideal for precision joinery, allowing us to create strong joints, accurate fixings, and long-lasting frames. It’s the perfect balance between resilience and practicality.
🛡️ 3. Safe – and Fully Compliant with UK Standards
At Strictly Beds and Bunks, every bunk bed we manufacture is fully tested to meet the British Safety Standard BS EN 747:2015+A1:2015 — the key UK standard for bunk bed safety. That includes strength testing, guard rail height, ladder positioning, and even the size of gaps to avoid entrapment risks.
When built properly, pine is 100% safe for bunk beds — as long as it’s part of a well-engineered design that prioritises safety. That’s what we do every day.
🧱 4. Better Than Flat-Pack MDF or Particle Board
Many cheaper imported bunk beds use MDF or particle board, which may look good on the outside but lack the core strength and lifespan of solid wood. MDF can sag under pressure, weaken at joints, and chip over time — making it unsuitable for bunk beds, especially for growing kids or teenagers.
In contrast, our pine bunk beds are made from solid timber throughout, with no hidden MDF or chipboard anywhere. That’s one of the reasons we’ve earned such strong customer trust across the UK.
♻️ 5. Sustainable and Eco-Friendly
We use responsibly sourced pine, making it one of the most eco-friendly furniture materials available. It grows faster than hardwoods, regenerates more easily, and requires less energy to process.
If you care about reducing environmental impact while still getting a strong, attractive bunk bed, pine is a smart, sustainable choice.
🇬🇧 6. Proudly Made in the UK
All our pine bunk beds are manufactured right here in the UK, at our Bedfordshire-based workshop. By choosing Strictly Beds and Bunks, you’re supporting British manufacturing, reducing supply chain emissions, and getting faster service — not to mention free next-day parts support if you ever need it.
✅ Final Word: Pine Is the Ideal Bunk Bed Material
To sum up — yes, pine is more than just “good” for bunk beds. When treated and crafted properly, it’s one of the best materials available: strong, reliable, easy to work with, and built to last. Our pine bunk beds combine the charm of natural wood with the durability and safety you need in a family home.
And when it’s made by Strictly Beds and Bunks, you’re not just getting a bed — you’re getting a British-built piece of furniture designed for real life.
The top bunk bed has a saftey rail, naturally that prevents the user from falling off. Most bunk beds are designed for thinner 15cm mattresses. We have designed ours to accept a 20cm thick mattress.
However, its not the weight but how the bed is used. A three stone child jumping on a bed caused more damage than an adult.
Remember, this only applys to the top bunk, the bottom bunk can be any height you want given there are no safety rails.
A mattress sits inside a bed frame, on this basis the mattress is always small then the actual bed. If is for this reason we supply external dimensions for our bed frames. Each listing will have the mattress size, just scvroll down on the listing. Below are also the sizes:
2ft 6 Short Length Bed – 70cm by 160cm
3ft Short Length Bed – 90cm by 190cm
2ft 6 Small Single – 75cm by 190cm
3ft Single – 90cm by 190cm
4ft Small Double – 120cm by 190cm
4ft Small Double (SHORT LENGTH) – 120cm by 160cm
4ft 6 Double – 137cm by 190cm
3ft EURO SIZE – 90cm by 200cm
5ft King Size – 150cm by 200cm

Lets be honest, some people spend only 6 hours a night in bed, some spend 12 hours. So this alone will affect expectation the life span of a mattress. In reality mattresses rarely wear out, they loose comfort as the fillings start to wear over use.

Hi,
Sorry to note your email.
A bunk bed is a top heavy bed, this means with the weight at the top a pendulum effect could occur if the user either moves around to much or the floor is slightly unlevel.
This is further enhanced if the floor is wooden, we have explained this possible issue within the care leaflet and the assembly instructions.
It is not a matter that the product is faulty but a characteristic of such a top heavy product. It is therefore instructed by the Bunk Bed entrapment regulations that a customer be supplied with wall brackets to attach that will prevent this effect. It is no different than a bookcase with all the heavy books on the top shelf.
So, to resolve this problem simply attach the brackets as advised within the assembly instructions. Preferably attach to the wall but you can try attaching to the skirting. This prevents movement that
will prevent this pendulum effect
